In a bid to tackle the issue of unpaid internships, business minister Jo Swinson has passed the details of 100 companies who are accused of illegally using free interns to HMRC. By law, any employer that engages someone in ‘work’ (legally defined as working in a defined role that involves set hours) must pay them the minimum wage.
